Romania - virtual mobility

"Mens sana in corpora sano" was the title of one week of online activities where students from Italy, Poland, Turkey and Romania met virtually using Zoom.Using games and dynamic activities was a great way to help children learn about healthy eating while having fun at the same time! The idea of sports and health was to engage children in healthy eating experiences, teach themto recognize different foods and encourage them to experiment with new foods, tastes, flavors and textures. On the first day we played "The guessing game" with fruits and vegetables ("I am thinking of a food which begins with the letter...." Children were given extra clues like colour, shape, texture etc, until children correctly guess the food.) and we learnt how to say their names in all the languages of our partners. We presented the results and recommendations of going shopping with parents. We watched on fast forward how plants grow. The second day was dedicated to the question "Should I eat it or not?" So we analyzed different products' labels and talked about food labelling legislation, food supplements, food for specific groups and addition of vitamins and minerals and concluded which are best for our health. On the third day we sang songs about healthy food groups and nutrition and we created movements with those songs, and we created drawings of healthy menus with random food products. Sports' teachers helped us understand the need of preparing the body before physical effort. These activities were related to the school subjects, like Biology, Mathematics, Music, Art, English etc., so they could combine with normal activities happening at school. The fourth day was about healthy movements and, again, sports' teachers introduced us the idea of combining healthy eating with sports activities. We learnt some aerobic movements and felt the energy growing in our body, as we danced a little bit on songs with good rhythms. The last day brought us back to analyzing what people think about food and we looked at different proverbs, idioms and expression to demonstrate that they exist in all languages.
Teachers and students participating in the virtual meetings had a chance to practice their communicative skills in English, to learn interesting facts concerning healthy diet and be motivated to spend time in an active way.Teachers participating in the meeting had a chance to exchange their experience and observations concerning teaching methods with other teachers. This would enrich their methodology workshop, they would be able to introduce new teaching methods and make their classes more involving and attractive for students. After the meeting they could try to adapt what they had learnt in their schools. Also, being a virtual activity, students and teachers learnt about different applications for presentation, survey and share digital content.
