Poland - mobility

Poland - mobility

The meeting in Poland was entitled "Being fit the Polish way" and lasted 5 days. During the first day students and teachers from all parter schools discussed the problem of overweight and obesity. They calculated BMI, desired calorie intake needed for a specific weight and studied the healthness of meals over a day for specific teenagers.

All the information given in the presentasion of the Polish students were tested at the end in a Kahoot game. Thanks to these activities students could check how healthy their bodies are and what to eat to keep their bodies in the right shape.

During the second day we focused on physical activity and its influence on health and general wellbeing. Students from all partner schools found out that being physically active is very important especially at their age when their bodies grow and they need to use their intellectual capabilities in the most efficient way. They have also learnt that lack of physical activity may lead to some serious health problems and shortens lifespan. Students have learnt how physical actvities help to avoid overweight and obesity. At the end of the activities students put into practice what they have learnt in theory. They did some physical exercises and danced.

The third day of activities was conducted by a biology teacher who focused on how our choice of food affects our body, the way we feel and work. Students found out that the things they eat before a test might help them get better results. Students from each partner school had to perform a number of activities, like give examples of food and drinks they can't live without; say what food they usually eat when they feel sad or before doing sports. Later they found out how the things they eat and drink influence their mood and the way they work. They also had to answer questions based on a text entitled "Mood food". At the end of the meeting students were given some tips on "food and mood".

Food additives and preservatives, their role and effects on our body were the main topics of the fourth day of our virtual mobility. Students from all partner schools were invited to perform some simple chemical experiments to find out if their snacks and favourite drinks contain substances which are not necessarily good for their health.

The last day of the virtual mobility combined the use of knowledge and experience gained by students during the previous four days of activities, and their artistic skills. Using different techniques students had to prepare a "healthy plate". They had different ideas concerning the choice of products that should be included. The choice of food was discudded by teachers and most balanced sets of products were presented.

At the end of activities mobility students and teachers talked about their results and reached goals.

Thanks to this mobility teachers from all parnter schools could exchange their experience and teaching methods. They will be able to use them in their regular classes making them more attractive, effective and more engaging for students. The tasks were performed virtually using tools which may be used at schools regularly. All the tasks were conducted in English so it was an opportunity to practise communication skills, both for teachers and students.

All the participants extended their knowledge and awareness concerning healthy diet, its influence on our body, learnt about BMI, desired calorie intake and planning physical activities which help maintain proper health and overall well-being. Thanks to the conducted experiments they are more aware of the negative effects of food additives.
